Top 10 Movies I wish I saw in 2019
It’s the end of the year and social media lights up with everyone’s “Best of 2019” lists for movie pics. I originally planned on doing something like this and had an easy list picked out for movies I loved this year. However it didn’t feel authentic because I didn’t actually get to see a ton of movies this year. I mean how can I really say Joker was the best if I didn’t see other movies that could have been better. So instead here is the Top 10 movies I’m upset I didn’t get to see this year.
10. The Dead Don’t Die
Release Date: June 14th, 2019
The cast alone made me really want to watch this movie. I actually had plans to go see it in theaters and they fell through. This is one of those cases where Halloween passed and it’s hard to get in a zombie mood with Thanksgiving and Christmas happening.
9. Marriage Story
Release Date: August 29th, 2019
A sad story about Kylo Ren and Black Widow getting divorced doesn’t really fit the rest of the list. But I really wanted to see this movie. Both actors are great and I actually feel for the kid trapped in that situation. I just haven’t specifically felt in the mood to cry and feel like shit since the movie came out.
8. Ready or Not
Release Date: August 21st, 2019
This movie flew under the radar for a lot of people, even the friends I have that love thriller horror films. Honestly the trailer just makes it look like a lot of gorey fun and I’m disappointed I didn’t hear about it until it was already out of theaters.
Release Date: October 11th, 2019
I honestly have no idea what this movie is about. Not a single clue. And this is after watching the trailer too. But everyone and their mother keeps talking about how good this movie is. So I feel like I missed out.. even though I don’t know what I’m missing out on.
6. Jojo Rabbit
Release Date: October 18th, 2019
At first I had no interest in this movie. I actually think Taika Waititi is overrated and the trailers were giving me too much of a Wes Anderson vibe. But overall the people who have seen it have given really measured positive feedback. If it winds up on a streaming service, I will definitely give it a watch.
5. The Lighthouse
Release Date: October 18th, 2019
I’m a big fan of William Defoe and actually a moderate fan of Robert Patterson. Plus it had the director of VVitch. I really wanted to see this movie but the main problem was finding a theater that actually showed it.
4. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
Release Date: July 26th, 2019
For one reason or another, I just didn’t have the time or means to see this movie. I’m a huge fan of Quentin Tarantino and of course the cast looks phenomenal . Once it shows up on a streaming service, it will hop to the top of the list in 2020.
Release Date: July 3rd, 2019
On a personal level I don’t think I would be too interested in Midsommer. I don’t love horror films and the concept of a cult doesn’t interest me. But more and more people keep telling me this is the best film of 2019 from a purely cinematic level, so I guess I should have watched it.
Release Date: May 13th, 2019
this movie suffered from the fact it came out too close to the other rock opera cinematic experience about a gay british rock star: Bohemian Rhapsody. And that movie was so good that it won Oscars. So it was hard to get into it. Now that it is out of theaters I’m even more hesitant to see it; I missed out the best way to experience it on the big screen.
1. Knives Out
Release Date: November 17th, 2019
I didn’t think I NEEDED to see this movie. But honestly after watching the latest Star Wars movie, I miss Rian Johnson. The cast had me interested and I love a ‘who done it’ film. Luckily for me, this one is still in the theaters so I’ll get to see it soon!
Movies NOT watched and regret felt by: Troy Smith
Release Date: December 25th, 2019
Technically this movie just came out so I didn’t really “miss it” but I still feel that way with how much people have been talking about it. I don’t think I’ll be able to see it in the 2 days left in the year but I’m still very excited for it and want to see it first thing in the new year.
